Since Mothers Day is fast approaching, I thought I'd celebrate the occasion with a Top Whatever of Best Sitcom Moms.
This list will be in no particular order, just to let you know.
#18 - Lily Munster (The Munsters) - This Vampire may not look like your Typical Sitcom Mom, but she does her job as one well.
#17 -Maggie Seaver (Growin' Pains) - Hard working reporter trying to raise her kids, with her Psychiatrist Husband.
#16 - Florida Evans (Good Times) - A strong woman, mentally and spiritually, she and her Husband try to raise their kids in the Projects of Chicago.
#15 - Harriet Winslow (Family Matters) - A Suburban Chicago mom who is great support for her family.
#14 - Jill Taylor (Home Improvement) - Being the wife of the Tool Man isn't easy, thankfully, she has the brains (and patience) to deal with his antics, as well as the antics of their 3 sons.
#13 - Edith Bunker (All in the Family) - She may not be the most clever or the brightest, but she has a lot of heart and patience. Hard to keep, since her husband is Archie Bunker.
#12 - Louise "Weezy" Jefferson (The Jeffersons) - Wheezy's Son, Lionel, may be grown up, but she still supports him in anyway that she can.
#11 - Peggy Bundy (Married...with Children) - A lazy housewife, who loves Bob-Bons and Oprah. She's not too much of a mom either. Her wit is what makes her entertaining though.
#10 - Roseanne Conner (Roseanne) - Loud, Snarky, Opinionated, and Funny.
#9 - Marge Simpson (The Simpsons) - Classic Sitcom Mom, with common sense and cleverness. Almost the polar opposite of her Husband.
#8 - Sofia Petrillo.(The Golden Girls) - Witty, Snarky, and full of Old World Charm.
#7 - Angela Bauer (Who's The Boss?) - A hard working mother to her Son and surrogate mother to her Housekeeper's Daughter.
#6 - Marion Cunningham (Happy Days) - The Prototypical 50s Mom, from a show made in the 70s. She's such a pleasant lady.
#5 - Amy Mathews (Boy Meets Worlds) - The Mathews Family's moral support.
#4 - Peggy Hill (King of the Hill) - She's a substitute teacher with big feet, but also a good heart and mind. She speaks Spanish fluently.
#3 - Clair Huxtable (The Cosby Show) - A Lawyer, and a damn fine one at that.
#2 - Carol Foster-Lambert (Step-by-Step) - She's like Carol Brady..but 50x Better. And unlike Mrs. Brady, This lady has an Actual Career, as a Haitdresser.
#1 - Vivian Banks (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) - Dunno what to put here. Mrs. Banks is the wife of a rich man, who never forgot her roots. She deals with her Nephew's crazy antics well
Honorable Mention #1- Daisy Mae "Granny" Moses (The Beverly Hillbillies) - Not the Mother of the Clan, But the Matriarch. So..it's close.
Honorable Mention #2 - Hilda and Zelda Spellman (Sabrina: The Teenage Witch) - Sabrina's Aunts, though they Do act motherly to her. So they're like surrogate mothers, as well as Aunts.
Honorable Mention #3 - Sandy Hogan (The Hogan Family) - When Valerie Hogan died, Aunt Sandy took over as lady of the house. She's not a Mom, herself, but she's a surrogate, just like Hilda and Zelda Spellman.
Not bad, huh? I plan on doing another one for the Sitcom Dads for Fathers Day. Anyway, Nothing more to say except - Happy Mothers Day, to All!!.
So remember to Stay Gold and Resist Nazi's, Commies, and Modern Attitudes.
